In baking yummy cakes

Chocolate, cream cheese, whatever flavors

I may use wheat, all purpose or cake flour

It may be crisp, moist and layered

They surely are nicely flavored

Aptly and beautifully decorated

With creamy icing artistically piped in and colored

Fancy cakes for any occasion

Or plain cakes just for satiation

Lip-smacking they surely are

Wanting more as you devour

Making cakes is my passion

The joy I derive in my creation

And the ornate designs I make

Are all for your ready take

Cakes for happy birthday

Grand one for the wedding day

I make for merry Christmas

And for celebrations joyous

my hubby's birthday today! :)

Hey fellow bloggers and followers…I am back for the second timearound, for the Insecure Writer’s Support Group. But really, those bitinginsecurities I have in mind do not leave me.

The nagging truth, you wish to know? There are many. I have toomany irons in the fire. My work in office demand my full attention andinvolvement that at the end of the day I become jaded physically and mentally. Ihave the chores in the house that all home makers are burdened with. Yetanother, of my own choice to make some extra money, is the baking I do againstorders. Baking to my dismay I found is a zealous mistress that invites fullattention and no diversion. Then there are the concerns of a mother with herthree children away in another city and monitoring their well being on a dailybasis. To cap them all, I am not endowed with a strong body and my healthis fragile. These are the reasons I am unable to write as much as I wishto.

What am I gonna do? I am torn between leaving my blog totallyand blog only when I have spare time.

I feel sad that as my blog gets older, the more I have becomebusier in life. Working Mom’s dilemma you know.

But at times I would like to attribute it to my sense ofinsecurities born out of imaginary fears. I seldom could overcome this. Well,whatever is that nagging truth, I will try my best to be visible when I canwrite and drop by everyone’s blog when I have the luxury of time. Iam aware of the fact that no man’s life is free from problems.”Into each lifesome rain must fall”—but why open your umbrella while the sun is shining?” Thatis why I put aside my umbrella and writing these lines.

Truth is I missed you all my dear supportive bloggers. Myabsence makes me incomplete.

Mr. K. Parthasarathi is my next and last guest on my blog's anniversary. He is aveteran blogger who has charmed readers with his shortstories in blogosphere.

I was very happy when he agreed to myrequest. He is a prolific writer. In fact I was impelled to try my hand inshort story writing only after seeing his blog. His blog can beaccessed in www.kparthas.blogspot.com.~ Amity

I felt honoured when Amity requested me to write a guest post for her blog "Dreams Are My Reality" on her completing three years of blogging. But I also wondered why she chose me over many distinguished blogger friends of hers who write poems in which form she excels and writes mostly. I can claim no such qualification as I write only short stories as a time pass and by no means a professional writer. Nevertheless having been a regular follower of her blog for almost three years I felt a guest post is but a small recompense for the immense joy I derived from reading her blog.

Let me at the outset heartily congratulate her for achieving a significant mile stone in blogging. But three years of blogging by itself is no significant accomplishment as even if one does not write, time would still fly and three years pass for any blog. But in the case of Amity, her blog is distinguished for several reasons which I will detail below..

The three years has been marked by very active and uninterrupted blogging save for a few occasional short breaks for personal reasons. The regularity of her posts has always surprised me unlike many bloggers who write by fits and starts depending on their mood and time. Like many youngsters who are caught up in the treadmill of blogging, she too was drawn into it. Started presumably as a fun to while away the spare time, I suspect blogging for her has initially been only for her enjoyment with no motivation to make a name or fame. A vast majority of bloggers succumb to their urge for self expression. Most of them may not grind out the best sellers or turn out to be great poets or vie for a place in the hall of literary fame. For most it is a platform from which they speak out to others.

Amity too obviously found in it the medium for self expression of her latent and unexpressed thoughts. But what was started as a hobby soon became a passion for her. Exposed to other illustrious bloggers, she soon became a member of many renowned sites like Haiku Heights, One Single Impression, Acrostics and Blog-a-Ton and participated in most of the prompts and competitions. These honed her skill over a period of time and transformed her as an accomplished poet. She has on display some golden awards.

Gifted with a good command over English language and a good imagination, she was able to bring out great pieces of poems each different from the other not only in the form but also in the imagery and content. She is versatile and adept in the various forms of poetry be they Sonnet, Free Verse, Haiku, Cinquain, Double Etheree or 3WW. Some of them are real nuggets of beauty. Even as one who has never written any poem, I was able to draw delight from the sentiments expressed in her poems. That is perhaps a testimony to her skill in this form of writing. I must admit here that some of her poems did not lend themselves to my easy understanding but as in art or music too much of dissection would extinguish the pleasure.

Not content with poems alone, she has tried her hand in writing short stories too in her literary pursuits. Written in impeccable English, they are crisp and well narrated sometimes with a twist and more often with happy endings. I have always felt Amity has given short stories lesser importance than her talent as a story writer would justify.

Another noteworthy feature is the excellent pictures she puts that are apt to the posts. Some of her photographs for the Sky Watch Friday are breathtaking and speak high of her skill with the lens.

A blog is a personal expression and varies from individual to individual aesthetically, according to their taste. The template of Dreams Are My Reality is very nice, attractive and soft on the eye without being loud and gaudy, well arranged with a reader-friendly slant. I always tend to judge the blogger from the nature and style of his/her template and am happy that the template of her blog reflects well of her.

She has her regular followers but the traffic to the blog needs to increase for the high quality of its content . This in turn depends upon her visits to other blogs and the time she can spend on the net.

I take great pleasure in wishing Amity all success on this happy occasion. May her blog grow in popularity and quality bringing great joy to her and her vast readers.

I've been invited here to do a guest post by my dear Blogger friend. Today her beautiful blog is completing 3 years of its online presence and so is our friendship. I came across her blog through our common friend Leo, who is so famous for his innovative poems.

First, when I read her comment in one of my post, I noticed her name. "Amity" - meaning Friendship or Peaceful Harmony. I understood why she chose that name after reading through her posts & observing her interaction with fellow bloggers. She is an embodiment of "Amity" :)

I know "Amity" only through her words :) We've not met face to face or even heard each other's voices. Its all the power of words which has bonded us together as friends. From her words, articles, posts I understand that she is a great person to be with. A warm & social person who participates actively in every intellectual thing which is being hosted online like OSI, Haiku Heights, Thursday Tales, BAT, Wordless Wednesday and so on.

Making people to understand our perspective, or making them understand the exact meaning of what we put forth is very very difficult. But 'Amity' has done that with ease. For 3 yrs her words have never been misinterpreted by any of us. She has taken her readers along with her, in the journey called "blog" with her most beautiful dreams, figments of imaginations & words which made them a reality. She has painted this blog with her dreams so colorful which goes unnoticed and it also inspires many of us :)

My first guest in my blog's 3rd anniversary is a man of few words...though short but sweet! I may have been irregular in my blog this year, but he remained a constant follower. When my post is up after a long break, he would be the first reading it and there comes his short and sweet comment. It is really encouraging. Though a published writer, he remains humble, always rooted and always hosting bloghops (the fun part of his blog I like most), and of late The Insecure Writers' Support Group where I have participated once til now. His second sci-fi novel, CASSAFIRE is coming out this February 2012 if I were not mistaken.

Hey Alex, is this too early for me in promoting the sequel to your CASSASTAR?

I have a lot to say about him even though I am an on and off follower of his blog, but I guess, I am not the star today but he is.

Today is Amity's three year blog anniversary. For those of us who have followed her journey, we understand the truth of her blog's title. Amity's words are the stuff of dreams. Brownie she was, but named her Zenki

Chasing her tail, she was pretty funny

Yelping and barking at every passing sound

Bringing much laughter to kids around

Pampered and cared, she loved to play

Catching the ball with kids on a sunny day

Craving for attention on days that rained

Till the kids gave it endlessly she whined

Giving mirth to kids back from class

She loved to roll joyously on the grass

Dreaming of fun with meaty bone

And of the cookies often thrown

She was much loved by every kid

And treated like a baby splendid

Giving her bath that made her happy

And she in turn licked with tongue very slimy

Then on one fateful day, she ran into the woods

We don’t know in what varying moods

Till we found her lying in the rice plain

Almost breathless and blue, frothing with pain

The culprit we knew was a venomous viper

As we saw it hurriedly into the bushes slither

Alas as the venom spread she breathed her last

With her soulful gaze on my kids held steadfast

She sadly left us all, after 10 years ofplaying with my kids. Whenever we see one like her on the streets, it remindsus of the loving and playful Zenki. My kids christened her Zenki, acartoon character very familiar to them, if I were not mistaken.

But am I a writer?

Well, not really, a published one I mean!

Just an amateur one or a green horn in the blogworld who’strying to make a boring, melancholic and dull life a bit interesting by sharing some of my thoughts and feelings through my blog, “Dreams Are My Reality”!

"Mom, I wanna play with Sofia,” Justin begged of his Mom one fine morning. “I want to see those sheep in the coral…I like those furs, it’s so fluffy, am gonna die,” he added mischievously. His Mom could only smile at Justin.

“Dad, can I play with Justin today?” Sofia asked his Dad while the latter was busy with the morning papers and a mug of coffee. Her dad peeped through with the papers he was reading. “But it’s too early Sofia,” her Dad mumbled. “I wish to see those sheep in our coral as we usually do with Justin,” she begged of her Dad. “I love those furs, it’s so fluffy, am gonna die,” she added with mischief written all over her face!

Sofia and Justin is a permanent fixture near the coral. Justin would pick up Sofia in their home, just next to his home and would be shouting “Sofia, Sofia, please come now, those sheep are waiting for us,” and Sofia would run down the grand staircase of their house from the second floor where her bedroom is located.

His Dad, amused, would just let Sofia go. She’s his angel, the only priceless gift left by his wife who died giving birth to Sofia.

“Justin, be careful,” his Mom would always remind him. Justin and Mom are best friends. Justin’s Dad died of cancer when he was barely 2 years old.

Justin and Sofia were very good neighbors in beautiful country homes in Texas. Sofia’s Dad is tending hundreds of sheep enclosed in a big coral. These kids are best friends. Near and around the coral was always the place where they play. They would watch the sheep munch grasses every morning. They would hold hands. And their famous and fabulous lines while watching the sheep would always be: “I love those furs, it’s so fluffy, am gonna die”! Followed by a wild, innocent shriek from them.

From a distance, their respective parents would be watching them. In their innocence, they displayed a sweet, close friendship, holding hands while watching those sheep.

“Sofia, will you forget these moments once we grow up?” Justin would often ask Sofia. And Sofia could only smile with a big a shake of her head signifying a no.

Suddenly, one day, when they turned their heads to see if someone was watching them, they saw to their surprise their parents too were chatting happily holding their hands together in warmth, oblivious of the baffled stares of their kids from afar.

The plane was nearing Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, Philippines. Cynthia was telling Danielle, a young girl, “It looks like only recently. It was 15 years back myself and my husband were here on a holiday. We went to nearby places and spent a week at Pearl of the Pacific, Boracay Island. It was a fabulous trip. Back to Manila I expressed a wish to adopt a Filipina child as we were childless. He readily agreed and took me to an adoption centre.”

“I know. It was here you took me into your fold. Daddy had told me that you did not like any of the kids you saw at the adoption centre and that the lady in charge took you instead to a poor woman with four daughters and we are on our way in this journey to find my biological mother,” Danielle said with excitement.

“Oh oh, I never knew Alfred has told you all. We tried to keep the details away from you. Yes, we will go to the adoption centre and find that lady who helped though I am not very hopeful. But at least you would have got the feel of the place where you were born” Cynthia said.

“Did you buy me Mommy?” asked the charming and well educated girl.

“I would not say that I bought you. I helped that poor woman with 2000 dollars that would have done her a lot of good. She was in abject poverty and unable to feed her children. Her husband had deserted her though she was good looking,” Cynthia assured Danielle.

“Mommy...Please do not get upset. I am dying with excitement to see how my mommy would look like and whether I would bear any resemblance to her,” she said animatedly.

When they went, they luckily met the same lady though advanced in years at the centre. When she saw Danielle, she exclaimed “What a beautiful girl. It has been a great blessing for the girl that you adopted her.”

“Can you help us trace her mom? The girl is eager to meet her. She has brought lots of gifts for her and her siblings.” Cynthia told to the woman in a hush.

“I am sorry. The shanties there were demolished and big apartments have come. I do not think you can see her. She must be begging at the church perhaps. Can you identify her? I have a very hazy memory,” she said sadly.

“Oh oh, I remember, I had seen a mole on her chin,” said Cynthia in a whisper while Danielle was looking at the children in the centre.

They went to Quiapo Church in the evening with dim hopes of finding her. Danielle was forlorn and dejected. The smile in her face had faded.

There were lines of poor people on the way to church. Cynthia was watching carefully. The woman was not seen. After going around the church when they came out, Cynthia felt someone tug her from behind. When she turned to look she saw a sickly emaciated woman with sunken eyes and protruding jaw bones and a hair that had never seen dressing for years. She was lying on the ground and it appeared to Cynthia she would not live for even a week. When that beggar woman removed the cloth that covered her face, Cynthia was shocked to see the large pinkish mole on her chin. The dying woman locked eyes with her. There were tears in her eyes.

There was dramatic silence. The poor woman turned to look at the lady beside Cynthia whose holding her hand. She knew it was her daughter. She could only sob in silence. She can't even hug and kiss her.

Danielle could only mutter as innocently, ”Poor thing, are there nobody to take care of these poor and sick people?” almost in a whisper.

Cynthia quietly took a wad of several pesos and gave it to the woman saying, “Keep it carefully. Buy some food and dress. This should last you for some time.”

Then she hurriedly took Danielle away from the scene towards the waiting car.

"Let us hurry, our plane to London is leaving in a couple of hours," she admonished the driver.

Few notes on the poem: I intended to write a Villanelle poem with an aba rhyme scheme. I faltered in the rhyme scheme so here I am with just one rhyme. This is no longer some Villanelle na ... :( I hope the poem turned out good... :P

Week 40

Time is running out....

You can’t push it underground,
You can’t stop it screaming out
How did we come to this?
You will suck the life out of me…

Irene sobbed uncontrollably with tears flowing down her cheeks."How can you do this to me? With what face can I meet my parents? They will be shattered by this news.”

“They have always held you in high esteem and never hesitated to permitting me to date with you. I just cannot live with this shame. I would rather die."

Patrick patted her shoulders and said, "You are behaving like a child. Remember this is not a one man show. I am not saying the blame is on you. We should have been careful. Never mind. Let us solve the problem. Let us think of what we should do now. Crying doesn't solve problems," he said with a hint of his patience waning.

"It is easy for you to talk like this. The thing will show up anytime and I cannot hide it from my college mates. I will become a laughing stock. You have sucked the life out of me.” She wailed.

"Be calm. How many weeks now? Let us work a way out," he asked and suggested.

"It is the 6th week. I feel like throwing up I felt when my mom looked at me there was a streak of concern in her face. She didn't ask me. I told her some food at the canteen is not suiting me," she replied.

“Oh, oh. Let us go and meet an OB-Gyne tomorrow. She can find a way out easily. Let us own up the mistake and plead with her for her help," he assured.

“No, no! This is a small community and the word will get around. Let us go to the adjacent city. Let us act fast as time is running out,” she sobbed.

The OB-Gyne in the adjacent city looked matronly and stern. There was a look of consternation as they both blurted out their problem. "Aren't you both literate and college going? Are you not aware of the consequences of your actions? I am sure your parents have not been taken into confidence. I hope you two are above 18. I would need a signed letter before I do anything. Let me check her first," she said.

A few minutes later both of them came out with grim face. The OB-Gyne told calmly, "What do you expect me to do? The damage has been done."

Both the youngsters were devastated. Irene started crying. The doctor was looking at them with a poker face. Patrick said, "Don't be worried Irene I will not let you down, I will marry you within a fortnight come what may. He turned to the doctor and said, "can you please do something to help us out. I promise I will in no case let her down."

The doctor broke into a guffaw and said, “Don't be worried. She is not preggy. I will give her some medicine. But promise to me that both of you will be careful in the future".

"Muse, time is running out!"

Hannah's Secret Garden

Hannah is a very pretty li'l girl, aged two. She had just started telling small words like mommy, daddy, and more. She lived next door. The only daughter of the Smiths. They lived in a very beautiful home with a sprawling, beautiful garden.

I did not fail to notice each morning when I went for a walk as part of my daily regimen to stay fit, Hannah prancing around in their garden, touching and smelling those colorful flowers that festooned their garden. I envied her for the spirit of joy and appreciating beauty even in her tender age. She will throw an innocent smile at me invariably and mutter auntie. What struck me was the large mole just below her lower lip in her chin that added to the girl’s charm.

I did not see the girl for a couple of days and wondered whether she had fallen sick. On the third day I learnt from my help that someone who came in a truck had kidnapped the girl two days back when she was alone in the garden.

Her parents were devastated. The police could not make a breakthrough as the only witness who saw the girl being put in the truck did not notice its number or remembered the model.

Her mom was constantly crying "Hannah, where are you my girl..........." and no amount of care by her husband could console her. Days and nights passed. Weeks and months passed. Hannah was nowhere to be found. Police were only assuring that they are trying to trace her but they had lost all hopes. In memory of Hannah, they named their vast garden, "Hannah's Secret Garden."

Six months later I had some official work at a neighboring city. I had finished my work by 3pm and my bus was only at 7pm. I went to the mall nearby for a quick bite and for time pass. As I was sitting on a bench and eating, I saw an aged couple with a small girl walking towards my direction. They looked as somebody who came from impoverished family. When I looked at the girl, I was astonished to see the large mole on her chin. To my utter surprise the girl smiled at me and called me auntie.

I learnt the couple found her crying in the road at the outskirts of the city. They had obviously discarded her there when they saw a police car coming behind thinking wrongly they were being chased. She could not speak. She seemed afraid. They brought her home and were taking care of her. I told them about the grieving neighbors and asked them to accompany me promising them some reward.

Imagine the shriek of joy let out by Hanna’s mom on seeing her. They thanked me profusely and rewarded the couple with money, clothes and tidbit.

They did not remove however the name board and it remained “Hannah’s Secret Garden.

The next day, Hannah was seen prancing again in her beautiful garden, hopping from one flower to the other and smelling each one of them. She’s free again but with tight security implemented by her parents within their abode’s perimeter.

When it comes to love, I am most involved

I love to show my total endearment to my beloved

I love to show my unfailing love to my family and friends

Even the hapless little kids evoke in me the sentiment

I am passionate when it comes to my role in society

I get boundless rage at every injustice to the innocent

I wish to protect the children from exploitation

And I want the women to take their rightful place

I am passionate about all things that are aesthetic

I wish to sing to an enraptured audience

To be known as an accomplished soprano

I wish I could also in church play the piano

I am passionate about the unsullied beauty in nature

The verdant mountain ranges and the cool breeze sending me in rapture

The beautiful flowers across the gardens in striking colours

Make me passionate and aware of God's powers!

Tsunami

Just when we were about to start our Friday Habit Fitness Regimen in our office, our country’s Regional Disaster Coordinating Council alerted everyone of possible tsunami that may hit our place after it hit Japan at 2:30 PM. A couple of my colleagues offered prayers while we were gathered at our municipal park, then dispersed immediately as Alert Level 2 was already raised after some few minutes. There were tears in our eyes and panic stricken all over our faces but we went home and remained calm.

When I arrived home, I saw on TV the devastation and aftermath of the deadly tsunami that hit Japan. I could not believe my eyes what I saw. I was trembling. My knees wobbling. I immediately went to our neighbors and told them of the instructions to us in office to alert everyone around us and go find a higher ground for safety.

My hubby coincidentally sent me an sms telling me he was sleepless.I answered the message telling him to pray for us because of the tsunami alert in our place. A few minutes later, he called again and told us to hurry and go to a safe place – “in the nearest mountain,” he told.

I called my son and daughter who are in the city asking them to pray for us. My daughter told me to go soonest to a safe place. She further told me she heard howling dogs the night before around their boarding home. She presumed it was a premonition of an impending danger.

So I called the school where my son was and requested the School Principal to disperse the almost 1000 students soonest. I was so worried as my son still took another 20 minutes to reach home.

I asked him to gas up our three wheeler, buy some emergency provisions we will carry with us, had our cellphones loaded and off we went to the nearest mountain. We just went a couple of kilometers away from home. But when we saw lots of people coming to the mountain too, we panicked. We went further and found a safe place. After an hour, people continued to come to the place where we found refuge. They were in ten-wheelers, jam-packed. I was convinced this was no false warning anymore.

These people even came from nearby municipality and as far as Pamplona.

We had candles as emergency lights. It was too cold. Kids were crying maybe due to little lighting and the cold temperature. I was so tired.

My daughter was glued on CNN for updates and she would relay the news to us immediately. When she told me that San Vicente, Cagayan and Isabela province were hit by the first wave and no damages seen, I was a bit relieved. But she would always tell us to stay put in our place because the alert was not lifted yet.

Finding we were in a safe place, I was able to snooze a little, in spite of the noisy surroundings and the uncomfortable cold cement floor.

Then when our Pastor’s son kept on crying at past 1 am, we decided to return home since my daughter was no longer sending us updates though her last text message told us that “scientists could still get wrong with their predictions as the US West Coast is expected to be hit by an 8 ft high waves sooner or later.”

But then, the critical hours had already passed. So at 2:30 am, we went home, at a very slow pace. And as we reached our home we saw that nothing disastrous had happened. I was so relieved. I went to my room, and uttered a prayer of gratitude. “Thank God, you spared us”! My bedroom looked the same before I hesitantly left it 10 hours ago.

Just before we left home, I had posted on FB asking my friends to help us by praying for our safety and for God to spare us of agony and hardship. When I opened my mail, I felt overwhelmed. I saw many had posted their prayers for us. I was so happy, at the abundant love and care for us from my friends. Much more, God loves us.

Thank you Lord, for saving us. For sparing the whole of the country.

Nature's fury can be devastating at times as what has happened now in Japan. My heart goes out to Japan where a thousand or more were predicted to have died and a lot more were rendered homeless, stranded, without food, water, shelter with only the hope of succour reaching them soon. I learned many countries big and small have offered help by way of men, money ,materials, food and many things to restore normalcy. I sincerely pray for the victims out there and wish things return to normal very soon. May God bless the departed souls...

In times like this, we need a Saviour, more than anything else. And prayers are powerful.

Monday Blues!

Mondays make me sick

I’d give cold-shoulder treatment

Still snoozy I choke it with my lazy arm

Pulling the blanket to make me warm

Cursing Monday that disturbs my calm

When it holds the world in its sway

I try getting up keeping laziness at bay

The day starts on a note so moody

I have no mind to go to work and get busy

I wish to rest and relax in my bed so cozy

Unmindful of files in office that leave me snoozy

How I wish the week had no Monday

Keeping the lazy me happy and gay

Foolishly forgetting its successor Tuesday

Would give me the blues of erstwhile Monday

I know my day of deliverance would come

When I am no longer a working mom

And the kids are grown up with strong arms

To keep me happy with life and its charms

Change!

Wish upon a star

Of a blissful grandiose place

Where love, beauty reign!

I stole that magical wand of the beautiful fairy in my dream. Every time I would wave it and utter a wish simultaneously, things happen as I wish them to be! Magic, pure magic!!!

I saw wars, famines and pestilences in my vision happening in different parts of the world. “Magic wand, please make this a happy, peaceful world,” and pronto the place changes to a Utopian world. Wars ended, food came in abundance and famine ended…

I saw the world suffering from the devastation of natural catastrophes; floods, earthquakes, tsunami, long drought, heavy rainfall, the melting of icebergs in the North and South Pole. “Magic wand, control nature, let floods end, earthquakes stop, impede tsunami, control drought, manage heavy rainfall, icebergs stop from thawing," and there a beautiful world is seen emerging…

I saw domestic violence, drug abuse, child abuse, and many other human cruelties. “Magic wand, please help me stop these societal problems, create a happy family, bring to a halt drug trafficking and end child abuse in every abode!” And so it did, that I could only see happy families, no delinquencies both young and old caused by drug addiction and children grew up to be reasonable children at home and responsible citizens in the community…

I was nursing heartache. At nights I am crying. Cupid did a naughty act. He played mischievously against my heart. “Magic wand, this time I badly need your help, could you help ease the pain?” Magic wand answered: “I am sorry Lynette, you cannot use me to personally change or edify your feelings or make yourself happy. I am only meant to change the world and not to be used for personal ends.”

Lynette’s world was shattered. She cursed the magic wand that she had stolen from a fairy. She threw it away. And wretchedly, the world she had changed for better using the magic wand, returned to what it had been before.

If only dreams were real, if only magic wands were real, if only what magic wands can do to change a world were real, I would still want another magic wand and use it to change the world. If it doesn’t work for my personal happiness, so be it!

“Beautiful fairy, where are you? I need your wand now…the world needs your magic wand!”

My Piano

“Remember that piano, so delightful, unusual…

That classic sensation, sentimental, confusion!”

Even as a child, Leeanne had a fancy for piano toys. She would beg her Mom to buy her one. Then one day, her Mom decided to send Leeanne to a music school. Though expensive for her since they could hardly make both ends meet, she knew Leeanne would love it.

She saw in the music school that many of her age group was enrolled in the same class. Some silent, some boisterous, some nerd-looking and most unfriendly. However one little boy may be two years her senior was kind of sweet when he introduced himself as Joshua. A handsome boy with a smiling face, she took an instant liking and they soon became friends. They lingered in the school even after their piano recitals talking to each other about music and many sweet nothings. They both loved this piece very much.

“Used to play, I like Chopin
Love me now and again….”

Interestingly they were recognized as the best performers for playing the song “I like Chopin”!

Young as they were, there were twinkles in their eyes as they threw a look at each other. They were young to be lovers in the normal sense but rejoiced in each other’s company and often holding hands. A case of puppy love presumably!

“Rainy days, never say goodbye
To desire when we are together
Rainy days growing in your eyes
Tell me where’s the way…”

They grew up to be both equally attractive teenagers and their friendship of piano days grew close. They went to the same college. Their friendship went to a higher level and blossomed into deep love. They now longed for each other’s company more than anything else. Sunshiny or rainy days, they had each other to cling to. When he missed her in the college even one day Joshua would get worried whether Leeanne was sick and it was the same way when he would miss his classes. Their parents were not aware of their love. They hid it even among college mates.

Special occasions like birthdays, Valentines and New Year’s Day for each other would mean meeting stealthily at a restaurant. They promised to each other that they would marry after graduation and on getting a job in the same city. It was all hunky dory the days in college were over. They had graduated and were looking for job.

It was then that Joshua suddenly stopped seeing her at the music school that was their meeting place. Those were the days when there were no mobile phones or net. She heard from a common friend that his house was locked and no one lived there. Life became a misery for Leanne. She cried all the time pining for him. The suspense of his whereabouts and the uncertainty about his well being tormented her. But there was no news. Months rolled by as she lived on the memories. She had lost her zest for life.

Her music teacher requested Leanne help her in the music classes and take classes for beginners in the evenings and weekends. One evening as she was teaching young children the lines

“Used to play, I like Chopin
Love me now and again….”

Tears rolled down from her eyes as she saw a young girl and boy sitting adjacent to each other. She wiped her tears and turned towards the piano playing feverishly the same lines to the amusement of the children. She was oblivious to the surroundings and was lost in her own thoughts. It was then she sensed someone tapping her shoulders. She was startled to find Joshua standing opposite her. He had become more handsome, plump and was well dressed. Forgetting she was in a class, she clasped her hands involuntarily with his until the children giggled. She disbanded the class to the merriment of the children.

When left alone, Joshua explained the urgent circumstances he had to leave on the sudden demise of his father along with his mom and siblings to a far away city and he could not contact her. He had secured a nice job and found one for her too. He told her to her great delight “I have come specifically to propose to you and meet your parents. I want you to come with me and take up the job. We will get married very soon with your parents’ blessings. I have informed my mother of my love for you and of my intention to bring you home along with me.”

Her joy knew no bounds. She hugged him tightly and dragged him towards the piano.”Come on, play on the piano. Let us relive our school days,” she implored.

When he started pounding the keys to play the song

"Imagine your face
In a sunshine reflection
A vision of blue skies
Forever distractions"

She sang along with him smothering him with smooches. The world looked suddenly bright after the drizzle stopped and a rainbow of magical hues appeared on the horizon.

I Wish for A Hammock!

Neither I was aware nor did I notice while I was busily engaged with many exciting matters of importance of late that I was neglecting my health until one day I fainted in a seminar. The culprit??? You guessed it right -Stress and over-fatigue!

I wonder why being busy with good things keeps me stressed :( But then I could not avoid the many tests and a day's stay in the clinic that my doctor felt necessary. Luckily the tests did not reveal anything amiss except that I had to gain strength and stamina for the arduous tasks that I have undertaken. My son ensures that I pop up the vitamin pills without fail and do the exercise at home if the weather does not permit a long walk. I am also careful on what I eat.

I also realized it is really a must to relax not just a bit, but fully! While I was in bed trying to recap what happened to me, I suddenly felt the need to relax, yes, relax in a real sense. And this fortnight's break from all work except the unavoidable like office and some social commitments has rejuvenated me. I am back at the blog in fine fettle. But not promising anything like I can stay for good na... :D

Now came this hammock I had been visualizing for long and wished resting on it during the break... :))

I WISH FOR A HAMMOCK

I wish for a hammock

suspended between two giant trees

within the deep of the forest

I wish to lie languorously in it

with an absorbing novel in hand

and lose myself leisurely in reading

I wish to listen to the weird sounds of nature

of the chirping birds and noisy cicadas

and the rustle of leaves as insects crawl

I wish to savour the smell of mountain breeze

and let my eyes feast once in a while

on the lush landscape around in all its green!

I wish to rest on a hammock

suspended between two coconut trees

found along a beautiful beach

I wish to let it sway as I sing

or listen to my favorite country songs

till I am lulled into gentle sleep

I wish to smell the cool ocean breeze

and feel the searing hot sun

as it lazily rises up from the horizon

I wish to thank the Almighty

for His munificence in nature's bounty

that keeps me ever happy!
