An epitome of virtue he was
Dignified in bearing and true in heart
He had his ups and downs
that he bore with no elation or frowns
Dignified in bearing and true in heart
He had his ups and downs
that he bore with no elation or frowns
He was an idol much adored by his family
A hero to his friends and community
The poor and needy found succor in him
While the sick and the hungry saw a helping hand
A hero to his friends and community
The poor and needy found succor in him
While the sick and the hungry saw a helping hand
He became an advocate of world peace
And an honest-to-goodness environmentalist
He was against drugs and child abuse
And more so with violence at home
He may not be a perfect and great person
But he has done good deeds without question
He richly deserves a worthy and lasting tribute
A monument in his name raised without dispute

Do you know of anyone? He may not be the totality of this poem. You may have elbowed with him once or twice. Or you may have lived with him throughout your existence. Who do you think he must be? He maybe a loved one, a dear friend, a grandfather, a father, a leader, a mentor, a husband, a son, a nephew? Tell me who could be that one person who deserves a monument?

ReplyDeleteI love how you have created a monument in words to unsung heroes and then invited us to attach a name we know! A beautiful, creative idea!
ReplyDeleteA hero indeed.
ReplyDeleteAmity, heart knows value of a true gentleman(or woman!) and respects him. Thanks for paying tributes to whom it belongs.
Well said, friend. I can think of many ordinary people who are heroes for these reasons.
ReplyDeleteA rich tribute to a great soul Amity.World needs a reminder in the form of a monument to refresh memories and teach generations to come about the trials and tribulations a great person has undergone to be someone in life.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful ode to the magnificent figures in our world. For me, I would erect a monument to Mahatma Gandhi, a true pacifist.
ReplyDeleteI love that you left the individual this monument was dedicated to anonymous...it really makes an impact. There are so many unsung heroes in this world who deserve monuments. Beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately Amity, I don't know anyone personally like that. I wish that I did! Love Di ♥
ReplyDeleteHello Amity.. many thanks for such a wonderful take on the prompt.. Can't it be a monument to an unnamed soul..which can be for anyone nearing waht you have depicted.. beautiful..
ReplyDeleteAnd about your comment on my page.. Ooops.. Here's a little clarification Amity ..
I have not written that any of us may become a monument, if you see it a little carefully you will find me talking about OSI becoming a monument of Self -discovery..
And hey.. that's possible why not with efforts of Sandy and Andree..
An inspiring figure you have depicted. We do come across in our lives a few like him.A monument need not be in stone and brick. We can build it in our hearts for those who richly deserve it.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful poem in your inimitable style. Thanks Amity
A nice little poem Amity!! :) Lot of noble thoughts in it but no single person can have all those virtues. Even if they are present in a lesser degree, the world would be a better place.
ReplyDeleteNice poem, Amity! And the only person I can really think of IS perfect...
ReplyDeleteA deep bow in respect of this entry of yours.
ReplyDeletePlease have a good new week.

What a beautiful dedication...I believe there are many men and women who are deserving of a monument. Often, they are the people closest to us. The best way to honor them is with our love. Beautifully written Amity.
