Shift in Time

Yesterday....

I was a child
young, innocent
dependent on my parents
full of hopes
of dreams
wishing to be successful
to be somebody someday.

Today....

I am in my middle life
experiencing midlife crises
have a family of my own
with wonderful and loving kids
who are starting to leave home
to earn a college degree
for their own good
for their future.

Tomorrow...

I don't know what it could bring
no children to care for
some dreams left unfulfilled
career unsatisfied
will be spending life alone
in my own humble abode.

Life is a cycle, a Shift in Time.

  40. loved the photo and the concept. It made me think of looking in the mirror and for so many years I saw only what I wanted to see, the young me, the one I had seen in photographs, when I was strong and wild, and then one day I noticed some creases, some wrinkles, and then that's all I could see! Very nice!

  52. I gobbled up the optimism and hope of the first stanza. The middle stanza I recognized, having lived through it. The last . . . well, I had begun to live through that, but have detoured to a new love and life. I hope the lonely life never comes back. Your poem is profound.
